Best Midget rugged laptop to take on an extended motorcycle trip.?

I think I want a 12.1" screen so it will be as compact as possible. I want WiFi, disc burner, if possible. Do they make that size "hardened" if that's the right phrase.

  1. We have these at work for our trips to the desert.. For home use I wouldnt suggest one but they are extremely rugged. The first two that we got one of the guys purposly dropped it from head level, no damage and it works perfect. 2. I have had the best luck with the IBM T-xx series. I have a T-23. It is 10"x12" - we also have about 25 other T-xx series laptops around my center ( I work in a University / Medical Center) . These machines have been all around the world, dropped, cracked, through hundreds of TSA checkpoints and baggage handlers and I have only had one minor problem in the last 6 years. The later T-xx series, like the T-30 and above come with internal WiFi, or you can stick a pcmcia card in any of the others. I am 100% sold on the IBM T-xx series. You can find "last year" models for 1/4 the price of the "hardened" ones you refer to. If you really want to spend $4000 -plus for a hardened one.. The Panasonic ToughBooks are great, but at a ridiculous price.
  3. Portable One in Morgan Hill Ca USA has a ruggedized series of mil-spec laptops. They sell to GSA and anyone else do a Google for Portable One in Morgan Hill Ca PS Dont ever buy a Toshiba they are the most unreliable piece of crap, I know because I bought one...
  4. I think you need a vacation away from your laptop, or rent a car and follow behind, you need to rethink your priorities as far as motorcycles go.
  5. agreed with the panasonic toughbook, they are expensive though
  6. Aw God help me! Crawl on your bike and leave your techno crap at home! Need to contact someone? Pull over at a pay phone and call! You have lost or worse yet no idea of the true spirit of a true bike trip!
